Writer, storyteller, and IT professional based in Colorado
My writing journey began several years ago, initially in the science fiction space. To date, I have three published books: one science fiction novel and two novels in the horror–thriller genre that form part of a trilogy. A third book is currently in progress.
Like many writers, I did not begin in isolation. I was working with a couple of friends who were also writers, and after enough back-and-forth conversations—most of which eventually boiled down to “Are you going to do it or not?”—I finally committed. My first book, Sinni63, was written, edited, and published on Kindle in roughly six months. I handled the entire process myself, including learning the mechanics of self-publishing.
Looking back, Sinni63 is not as strong as I would like it to be. That said, it was an essential learning experience. I learned how to finish a long-form project, how to revise and edit my own work, how to navigate publishing platforms, and how to take an idea all the way to execution. Those lessons carried forward into my later work, and I fully intend to revisit and iterate on that original novel with the benefit of experience.
Martial Arts and Physical Practice
Outside of writing and technology, martial arts have been a significant part of my life for many years. I hold:
- First-degree black belt in Mountain Dragon Martial Arts
- First-degree black belt in Tomiki Aikido
- Second-degree black belt in modern Ninjutsu
- I am currently working toward a second-degree black belt in Tomiki Aikido
In addition to formal rank, I have an extensive background in Juilong Baguazhang, Chen-style Tai Chi, and training experience in Xsing Yi Chuan, which I continue to study as time allows. Like most long-term practitioners, I am very aware that there are only so many hours in a day, and progress is a balance between ambition, consistency, and reality.
Life in the Mountains: Bees, Mead, and Mules
I live at approximately 9,200 feet elevation in Colorado, where I raise a couple of mules and maintain an apiary with multiple beehives. To the best of my knowledge, this may be the highest-elevation apiary in the state of Colorado.
Beekeeping at altitude has been an education in itself. The climate, shortened seasons, and environmental constraints introduce challenges that are very different from those faced at lower elevations. Working with bees requires patience, adaptability, and respect for systems that operate on their own timelines.
Alongside the apiary, I also produce mead, or honey wine—one of the oldest fermented beverages known to humanity. Mead-making, much like beekeeping, reinforces long time horizons and an appreciation for processes that cannot be rushed.
Technical and Professional Background
Professionally, my background spans a wide range of technical domains. Early in my career, I worked heavily in simulation and modeling, including:
- Traffic simulation
- Chemical and biological warfare simulation and modeling
- Remote-controlled vehicle systems
- Theater High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD)
- GPS-related systems
Over time, my work shifted into IVR systems and telephony, which has been my primary professional focus for many years. That work has involved large-scale systems, reliability and resiliency concerns, and real-world operational constraints where failure modes matter.
My resume reflects a career built around complex systems, problem-solving, and the intersection of technology, structure, and human behavior.
